A young Taro wanted to join the Ultra Brothers but his parents thought that he was still too young and inexperienced. As a result, he started training with his father, though he also went to school, where he met Tregear and became his friend. As they went through school together, they also had multiple adventures.

Out of curiosity, Tregear brought Taro to an off-limits area, locked behind bars. Tregear was unable to get in himself and manipulated Taro into breaking the two of them in. They then saw a pillar which played footage from the Ultimate Wars, and realized it was a tomb. They got in trouble at school the next day but Taro decided to stand up and admit their mistakes for the both of them, which Tregear secretly admired. Throughout their time in school, Taro became a symbol of light to Tregear, who continued to explore things such as night, darkness, loneliness, and fear, which he could only learn from the library, since the Land of Light had none of those. Tregear had written a poem of Taro, though he thought little of it beyond seeing Tregear's talent for poetry.
