A variant of the Rick Dom that had its generator enhanced for the testing of mobile suit-portable beam weapons. It was armed with a "beam bazooka", an experimental high-powered beam cannon originally used by mobile armors. Due to issues with the cooling system, the beam bazooka was impossible to mass produce and only assigned to a small number of veteran pilots.

After Char Aznable pursued the newly formed 13th Autonomous Corps into space, he received a MS-09RS Rick Dom, painted in his colors. He then used the mobile suit in a mock battle with four MS-06F Zaku IIs. While initially impressed with the mobile suit's thrust, Char found the controls to be slippery as a byproduct of its weight or speed and the altitude controls lacking. Once in battle with the Zakus, he noted the troublesome handling was not a problem in mid to long range combat. However, he soon found the Rick Dom's reaction times were too slow in close combat, and the recoil of clashing melee weapons difficult to handle. He then declared the mobile suit as ill-suited for melee combat, and saw no chance of defeating the RX-78-2 Gundam with the Rick Dom.
