The Lfrith was a machine that incorporated the GUND Format which was being developed by the Ochs Earth Corporation and Vanadis Institute. This mass-produced prototype model was released as a "GUND-ARM", a new-generation mobile suit with high combat capabilities that could be demonstrated in any environment. However, the Mobile Suit Development Council saw dangers in pilot fatality risks caused by the GUND Format, resulting in the Vanadis Incident where military force was used to attack the development base. All of the GUND-ARMS, which were scorned as cursed mobile suits or "Gundams", were supposed to be completely scrapped alongside the destruction of the Vanadis Institute. Nevertheless, a considerable number of these units that were already in circulation remained, and it is said that several new types of Gundams were created using their components. Although the flame of the curse was thought to have been extinguished, its embers continued to smolder covertly until they flared up again 21 years later.

In A.S 101, two Lfrith Pre-Production Models were kept in the laboratory alongside the XGF-02 Gundam Lfrith At Fólkvangr. The two units, designated as LF-01 and LF-02, were piloted by Nadim Samaya and Wendy Olent respectively. During the siege of Fólkvangr, these unit were deployed to intercept Dominicus' CCP-068 Heingras and were able to outperform them. However, the appearance of Kenanji Avery in the CEK-040 Beguir-Beu changed the situation, and LF-02 was disabled by Beguir-Beu's Antidote field, before being destroyed shortly after. LF-01 on the other hand was cornered by enemy forces, but managed to save Gundam Lfrith after it was nearly disabled by Beguir-Beu. LF-01 was eventually destroyed after Beguir-Beu stabbed its cockpit, while it was trying to ram Dominicus' mothership Ulysses.
