The Balient is the first mass production mobile suit developed by the New United Nations Earth and eventually became the organization's primary mobile suit. Compared to the aging DT-6800A Daughtress, the Balient has superior output and mobility. It is designed to secure air superiority, and is capable of flight as well as high mobility during aerial combat. The Balient can also operate in space, and is equipped with four missiles, two beam sabers and a single beam rifle. The mobile suit also has several hardpoints on its legs and arms for mounting additional equipment.

The Balient was developed as a replacement for the aging DT-6800A Daughtress. After it was successfully tested, the mobile suit's model number was changed to NR-001, and it play a key role in the New United Nations Earth's plan to unify Earth.
