The RGZ-95C ReZEL Type C (Defenser a-Unit) is the ReZEL Commander Type equipped with the optional Defenser a-Unit backpack. Developed specifically for the ReZEL, the Defenser backpack is a space-use assault backpack for conducting rapid, preemptive attacks on the frontline or at enemy's stronghold. Due to the high skills needed to use the Defenser backpack properly, it is normally fitted on the ReZEL Commander Type. There are two versions of the Defenser backpack, the "a-Unit" and the "b-Unit". The Defenser a-Unit backpack is armed with micro missiles and hyper beam sabers for dealing widespread damage at close to mid range. The Defenser a-Unit backpack also has additional thrusters, and the usual side skirts of the ReZEL Commander Type are replaced with movable, thruster equipped tail binders. In waverider mode, the tail binders boost the suit's propulsion capabilities, and in mobile suit mode, they improve the suit's mobility, allowing it to change direction quickly.

When the SCVA-76 Nahel Argama came under attack from Full Frontal and his MSN-06S Sinanju, two ReZEL Commander Type (Defenser a-Unit), one piloted by Norm Basilicock, along with a RGZ-95 ReZEL (Defenser b-Unit) piloted by Riddhe Marcenas, and a RGM-89S Stark Jegan were deployed to defend the ship.

In U.C 0116, a ReZEL Type C (Defenser a-Unit) was deployed during the siege of the Trimurti cannon. This unit piloted by Faona Brigan, served as the leader of "Champage Squad" that provided fire support to both Earth Federation Forces' Fastest Formula Corps and Trimurti defense force. During the battle, Faona's ReZEL Type C (Defenser a-Unit) deployed an beam dispersal screen from its micro missiles, preventing the OMA-05-2RFN RF Gromlin II from firing its mega particle cannon, and playing a role in its defeat.[5] Unfortunately, Faona's unit was later destroyed due to friendly fire from the F71 G-Cannon (Baz Galemson Custom) that was trying to protect the disabled H.U.L.L Blaster.
