The Stark Jegan is a special forces-use version of the RGM-89D Jegan D Type designed for anti-ship warfare, and has improved performance due to the additional armor and thrusters. It also incorporated feedback from its prototype, the RGM-89S Prototype Stark Jegan, and can mount missile pods on its shoulders for support use. Thus, it also inherited the functional concept of the RGM-86R GM III. Some of the added armor and the missile pods can be purged when required, with the subsequent balance adjustment being performed automatically. Due to its improved capabilities compared to the Jegan D Type, the Stark Jegan was also preferentially assigned to platoon leaders for use in difficult situations such as special operations.
In U.C.0096, two RGM-89D Jegan D Types and their platoon leader in a RGM-89S Stark Jegan were from Londo Bell attempt to intercept the Sleeves' disguised space freighter, the Garencieres. However, the team was intercepted by NZ-666 Kshatriya and the two Jegan D Types were quickly destroyed by the enemy's funnels. The Stark Jegan evaded the funnels' attacks and engaged in a fierce duel with the Kshatriya, but was eventually defeated.
A modified Stark Jegan, the Jegan High Mobility Type, piloted by Galom Gorga, was later deployed from the SCVA-76 Nahel Argama to defend against Full Frontal's MSN-06S Sinanju. It was then destroyed in battle by the Sinanju. Two more Stark Jegans were seen during the Londo Bell's attack on the asteroid Palau alongside a RGM-89S Prototype Stark Jegan. Near the end of the Laplace Conflict, a Stark Jegan equipped with two Vulcan Pod Systems defended the Nahel Argama against the Sleeves' attacks.
