A modified version of the original YMS-15 Gyan jointly created by Zeonic and Zimmad, the Gyan Eos, named after the Greek goddess of dawn, was intended to be more suitable for actual combat. In order to improve its mobility in space, it was fitted with the same type of backpack as the MS-14B Gelgoog High Mobility Type. For increased firepower, it was armed with a prototype beam bayonet. It also featured a new shield. Despite being modified for combat, its colors and decorations suggested that it was designed not only for battle, but also for ceremonial purposes. Due to its name, it was nicknamed "Knight of Dawn" by mobile suit pilots.

During the second phase main force mobile suit selection, the YMS-15 Gyan was defeated by the MS-14 Gelgoog. As such, only three prototype units were manufactured: one of them was assigned to Colonel M'Quve, while the other two were assigned to the Mobile Assault Force led by Kycilia Zabi.[3] With the assistance of Zimmad and Zeonic, the Mobile Assault Force modified its two units for actual combat.[3] The modified units were named "Gyan Eos" and given the new model number of YMS-15E. They were assigned to the Mobile Assault Force's flagship protection unit. The mass production of YMS-15E was considered, but ultimately did not come to fruition.
