An ex-military man, Delling is authoritarian, cold, and ruthless, being concerned only with victory and results. He believes that might makes right and those that hold power make the rules while the destitute have to simply remain quiet and obey. Delling has thin patience for those who fail to meet his standards, being unconcerned with companies under his banner that don't produce satisfactory results, despite the potential for improvement[6]. Delling has a strong desire to keep his authority and power secure, and he is more than willing to break the rules he himself established if it suits his interests.
Delling maintains this controlling demeanor over his own daughter Miorine, believing he knows what is best for her and often refusing to entertain her own opinions. In addition to stopping her from getting involved in projects he disapproved of, Delling enrolled her in Asticassia and put her future marriage up as a reward in the dueling games despite her vehement objections. He is very cold to her and expects Miorine to obey his commands without justifying himself, causing an intense estrangement with her.
