This was a prototype MS developed by the Ochs Earth Corporation, a company that was established on Earth. The most prominent feature of this unit was the implementation of the GUND Format, where "GUND"—an innovative body function expansion technology based on artificial limb welfare engineering—was refined for mobile suits. The mobile suits that incorporated the GUND Format and gained cross-disciplinary fighting abilities were collectively called GUND-ARMs, and people across the world soon came to call them "GUNDAMs".

According to a video call between Ochs Earth employees Yamaoka and Nadim Samaya, the higher-ups/their sponsors were in a rush to roll out the Lfrith as the council had set a deadline.

The unit was in the Vanadis Institute's laboratory at Fólkvangr on the day of the attack. Elnora Samaya was in the cockpit of the Lfrith undergoing a Permet link connection test.
