When Jou Ohara first enrolled at Academia, he witnessed Gou Omura nearly drown while attempting to save a dog caught in the waves. Jou saved them both and kept them warm with a fire he built.

Jou is at the bottom of the class at Academia. He is a sportsman and skateboarder who is short tempered and ready to dive into danger; Jou has the strength to back up his actions. Initially showing great anger towards the death of his two friends of Academia to the three traitors, he ultimately devotes himself to justice.

He was once good friends with Goh Omura and saw good things emerge from him regardless of his body and will being weak. Though he tried to show Goh the troubles of the group he was with, it wasn't enough to prevent him from joining Volt or from mutating into an "ultimate" monster form.

On his birthday, Jou helped a woman named Miku Kitamura, who time-travelled from year 2003, escaping from the Volt army and Gal Brain tries to kill her. Jou picked Miku to a tunnel tied to the Volt's time machine, with Miku returning to her timeline. Later it is revealed that she is the three-year old girl he helped when she was lost at the Tokyo Tower.
