The technology and design of the Space Ark-class is a development variant of the Earth Federation Forces' Clop-class light cruiser. The overall design of the Clop-class was not extensively changed, rather it was retooled to be optimized for training purposes. This required little change to the hull, the most prominent is the removal of the radiator fins and modification to its defensive weapons, replacing a large number of its single barreled guns with a smaller number of twin barreled guns. While somewhat less capable as a warship when compared to the Clop-class, these sacrifices were deemed efficient due to its role as a training ship: as the class wouldn't normally see frontline combat.

The ship class was equipped with MS maintenance beds that takes gravity into account, and it had the equipment to support the operation of small MS. When entering combat, the bridge can be retracted into the hull, leaving only the sensors out for continued use during combat. The class is also equipped with a set of landing gear for touching down on colony ground. Like its predecessor, it mounted six propellant tanks with three on each side, and it was instead propelled by four large engines.
