The Prototype Dom was developed by the Zimmad Company based on data from the MS-07C-5 Gouf Test Prototype, with an example being its legs incorporating thruster technology developed through the Gouf Test Prototype. The YMS-08A High Mobility Test Type, a previous lightweight and highly mobile prototype unit, was discontinued because it failed to meet the expectations of Zimmand's senior executives as well as that of the Zeon forces, so the Prototype Dom was given the model number YMS-09. Initially, a hovercraft-type propulsion system was planned, but in the end, a combination of thermonuclear jet engines and rockets was adopted, which solved the problems of slow movement speed and joint strain. Both sides of the backpack have hardpoints to which a setter for a giant bazooka can be attached, and a short-range communication unit can also be mounted.
