It first appeared in the game Mobile Suit Gundam: Gihren’s Greed. It is painted in the same three colors of black, purple, and gray as the High Mobility Zaku II that the Black Tri-Stars would later pilot. In the game, it is said that it piloted this machine during the Earth invasion operation. The instruction manual for the Master Grade MS-05B Zaku I Black Tri-Stars plastic model says that it was the machine that the Black Tri-Stars would later pilot before the outbreak of the war, restored and repainted during a special training exercise by the Mobile Training Battalion in March 0079 after the outbreak of the war. During the exercise, it encounters a Federation reconnaissance unit and destroys them. The Black Tri-Stars' aircraft have undergone several color changes over a short period of time, including dark gray and dark sea blue. After the MS-05B, they switched to the MS-06C, MS-06S, and MS-06R-1A, but it was from the MS-06S onwards that they switched to the black, purple, and gray tricolor color scheme.
