The AMX-102 Zssa is a rear support mass production mobile suit developed by Neo Zeon for its Earth invasion operation during the First Neo Zeon War in U.C.0088. It was designed with the concept of a mobile suit with large mobile armor-like heavy firepower. As such, it was equipped with a large number of missiles in its stocky body, while keeping close combat weapons to a minimum. It can also be equipped with an optional booster pod that not only provides the mobile suit with additional thrusters and flight ability in the atmosphere, but is also armed with additional missiles. The Zssa was envisioned to partner the AMX-101 Galluss-J in combat, providing fire support from the rear as the latter engages in close combat. In U.C.0096, the Zssas operated by the Neo Zeon remnant group, Sleeves, borrowed portable weapons of other mobile suits to compensate for their relatively weak anti-mobile suit capabilities, enabling them to serve more than a support role in combat.

The AMX-102 Zssa was developed and used by Neo Zeon during their campaign against both the AEUG and Earth Federation during the First Neo Zeon War in U.C. 0088.[1] Some units were later used by Glemy Toto's rebellion faction during Neo Zeon's internal conflicts and were repainted in gray color scheme.
