The Empruss is a GN Drive Tau-type, large mobile armor created by the Innovators to collect live combat data for the development of the GNMA-0001V Regnant. Although the Innovators produced a small number of Empruss, the machine selected for full-scale, mass production was the Regnant. In other words, the Empruss served as the prototype of the Regnant. Unlike the Regnant, the Empruss does not have mechanisms for transforming into a humanoid mobile suit form as it was also used to ascertain the usefulness of the mobile armor form.
