Following its defeat by the UN Forces in A.D. 2308, the paramilitary organization Celestial Being quietly reorganized and rebuilt its combat capabilities, before reemerging in A.D. 2312. The GN-007 Arios Gundam was one of the new Gundams developed by Celestial Being during the four years interval. It is the successor to the GN-003 Gundam Kyrios, and inherited the ability to change from MS Form (also known as "MS Mode") to Flight Form (also known as "Flight Mode", "Flight Position") during aerial combat. Arios also featured improved specifications, such as enhanced flight performance, higher acceleration and mobility, and more fixed armaments. Furthermore, its Flight Form possessed melee combat capability for improved operability. Unlike its fellow new Gundams, Arios focused on speed instead of attack power, and its inherent high mobility can be further boosted by the Trans-Am System. Due to Arios's uniqueness, there were limitations to the missions it could participate, but there were also many missions where it was indispensable.
