Although the Gundam's attack power was supported by being developed alongside the SCV-70 White Base, its ability to travel alone was hindered by the high energy consumption of its beam weapons and its low fuel capacity, which was implemented to reduce weight. The G-Fighter was developed to not only provide aerial support for the Gundam as an independent fighter, but combine with said mobile suit to increase its mobility. It was able to operate both in the atmosphere and in space. Sub-thrusters are also mounted across the G-Fighter's body, giving it VTOL capability. The G-Fighter was rapidly built after the Gundam's battle data was obtained, and it was ready for deployment only 2 months after being produced.
