An MS support machine that combines the characteristics of an armed sub-flight system, such as the Base Jabber, with super-large firearms such as the Hyper Mega Launcher. It looks like a huge hoverbike for mobile suits, and the MS sits in the center of the body and boards. Because it has plenty of thrust, it can carry and tow multiple MS. It is also equipped with a weapon rack for carrying the armament of the MS on board. The cockpit block is itself a living space, so it can be operated as a simple mobile base for MS units.

After the operational testing of the Proto-Mega Rider, the Mega Rider was deployed to the Argama of AEUG to make up for the lack of strength in the war against Neo Zeon, and was put into actual combat. The Mega Rider was used throughout the war, being piloted by several of the pilots of the "Gundam Team". However, it was most commonly used in conjunction with the RX-178 Gundam Mk-II, the least advanced Gundam, and its usual pilot during the war, Elle Vianno.
