This super robot is completed by combining two parts: Part 3, which forms the torso and face, Part 1, which forms the upper body, and Part 2, which forms the legs.

The pilot is Tsuwabuki Sanshiro, a former professional baseball player. It can fly at Mach 3 and operate in the deep sea and in space.

It was destroyed in a battle with the dark monster Moon Condor, and was repaired into a later model.

Additionally, in the original work, there are stories where Gaiking is never even deployed during battles, and when he does deploy he is immediately returned to Daikuu Maryu, and even Toei Animation's official website wrote that for a while "Dikuu Maryu was the only one that stood out," giving him an unfortunate image. However, there are numerous scenes in which Daikuu Maryu overcomes crises thanks to Gaiking's efforts, and above all, he plays an important role at crucial times, such as when he deals the finishing blow to Emperor Darius, so he is by no means an existence that is simply overshadowed by Daikuu Maryu.
