The AL-97 Atlas is a military labor developed by Hishii Heavy Industries for use as a frontline infantry unit. The type was introduced in 1997, but was replaced by the more advanced AL-97B Samson soon after.

The AL-97 is equipped with high-tension steel armor across its body. Its arms are not particularly well-armored in order to allow heavier armor plating on the more critical torso and leg units. This armor setup can shrug off most small-arms fire and offers significant protection for the pilots and more delicate systems. The most problematic aspect of its armor system is the glass canopy over the cockpit, which provides moderate protection from smaller weapons but is incapable of stopping anti-armor projectiles.
