The SRX-70 was a prototype patlabor produced by a joint venture between Toyohata Auto and HIshii Heavy Industry, acting as a front for Schaft Enterprises. Officially, it was intended to compete with the AV-98 Ingram, seeing limited use by Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department labor units, but it was never successful on the market.
The SRX-70 was designed to compete with Shinohara Heavy Industries' AV-98, and represented Toyohata and Hishii's contribution to the second generation of patlabors. The SRX-70 could roughly match the Ingram's physical performance, but stood out on account of its high firepower. The type was not equipped with any melee weapons, relying on hand-to-hand combat when using a gun would be impractical.
